Why President?

Last year, we experienced a difficult period. I saw a community divided between stability and  change. I saw my colleagues fearing the worst and suffering from the loss of services and student businesses. I've seen friends lose their jobs and I've seen our community lack strong representatives to defend and speak for them. Tired of watching and waiting, I ran for the Board of Directors of UOSU, representing the Faculty of Social Sciences. As a director, I've seen the birth of our Union and its growth throughout the year. As a director, I strived to proudly represent my colleagues and defend the values students upheld when choosing UOSU. This year has renewed hope in the union and the executive committee has done good work to establish our union. Despite this, our unique situation we find ourselves in highlights the many hardships faced in student life. We began our year outraged against racial discrimination on campus, we've lost our colleagues to suicide, and we're constantly advocating for mental health services.I've seen colleagues sacrifice their mental health and wellness on campus to fight for better conditions.  Throughout my mandate, a common thread to all of these actions is the passion my colleagues hold for their community. Be it in my experience as head safety ambassador during 101 or in supporting protests for better mental health care, I was inspired by the resilience of my colleagues and their fight this campus a better, more welcoming environment for all students. As President I will proudly work to build trust in our union and build a union that engages with and solicits the participation of all students to a diverse coalition.

Mission Staement

Our Student Union, At the heart of student life.

As President, my mandate would concentrate on three main approaches, reliability, wellness and representation and inclusivity. There is a need for a reliable student union that is stable, transparent, accountable, and open in all of its collaboration and actions. This must start with leadership TAs President, I promise to be a reliable point of contact for all students.. Wellness is at the core of all student life, and plays a fundamental role in succeeding in university. Wellness is about ensuring health of body and mind but also creating a fulfilling experience. Representation matters. Leadership matters. UOSU’s first President will be a black President, which is a precedent in itself. While recognizing the need to acknowledge my privileges, I will use them to uplift BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) and marginalized voices in general. I will look to collaborate with the administration when the best interests of students can be maximized and oppose and hold the administration accountable when it loses touch of student interests. I'm asking for your trust, your opennesses and support in the creation of a cross-campus coalition.
